The Minden Hills Cultural Centre will be under construction starting July.
Please note public parking will now be along Parkside Street.
2. Author of 'The Essential Haliburton' to Write New Book about the County
'The Essential Haliburton' was published in 2002 and sold out in just over
two years. More than a guide to the county, it talked of the past, the railway,
and interesting places, people and businesses. The aim was to promote the county
and it not only succeeded as a commercial venture but also wound up in libraries
across Canada where it continues to be used as a reference.
The author is now engaged on another similar larger book to be published by
General Store Publishing of Renfrew, Ontario which although it will be of interest
to area residents will be again be targeted towards visitors, cottagers and
those thinking of retiring or coming to live here in this quiet lovely country
just south of Algonquin Park. The aim is to have the work done by January 2009
and the book published by April 2009 with national distribution.
Over the next few months the author-researcher will be contacting individuals,
groups, municipalities, businesses, people in the arts and outdoors/sports
et al to obtain material which they know will be of interest to readers to
be used in the book. Principal photographer is Cameron Wittick.
The author will be looking for illustrations, tips, anecdotes and other items
of interest to visitors and those with a soft spot in their hearts for Haliburton.
'Haliburton in Highland Ontario' - Author Michael Barnes, C.M. has 50 books
to his credit on northern Canada, communities, resource industries and police
work. His bibliography is available on request. His books on Haliburton County
are: The Essential Haliburton, General Store Publishing; Wolves and Haliburton
Forest, Haliburton-Memories of Past Years, both with Haliburton Forest Publishing.
